An Armona man was airlifted Fresno’s Community Regional Medical Center suffering from an injury to the head, an apparent injury inflicted during a suspected assault on July 15.

The victim is currently in critical condition and comatose said officials with the Kings County Sheriff’s Department.

It was on July 15 at about 10 a.m. that deputies responded to Armona’s Front Street to discover the victim suffering from a head wound in the middle of the street. He was bleeding profusely from his injury.

Deputies ascertained that the suspect, Armondo Perez, assaulted the victim.

The victim was initially transported by EMS initially to Hanford Adventist Medical Centre for his injury, and upon conducting an initial examination, ER staff discovered that the victim suffered a significant injury to his head.  The victim was then air-lifted to CRMC.

The suspect, Perez, was later located near the crime scene hiding in a back yard.  When deputies tried to contact him, he ran.  Deputies caught up with him, but the suspect then began to fight violently with two deputies.  Additionally, a canine was introduced to assist in taking the suspect into custody.  The canine bit the suspect on his lower extremities, but the suspect, Perez, was able to pull the canine away.

The deputies arrested Perez.  Both deputies and the canine received minor injuries.  The suspect was transported to Adventist Medical Center to receive treatment.
