A recent prison parolee, with a history of assaults on corrections staff, was arrested and booked into the Kings County Jail charged with attempted murder, assault on a law enforcement officer, kidnapping, and possession of stolen property.

It was about 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12 when Kings County deputies were contacted in regards to recent parolee Raul Gonzalez. They were informed that the suspect Gonzalez had run away from a treatment program in Bakersfield, and it was believed he was in the city of Armona.

Deputies checked several areas in Armona but were unable to locate him.  As they prepared to leave, the officers observed an elderly female running out of a residence on Hanford Armona Rd. The female noticed the deputies’ patrol vehicle and yelled that someone had broken into her home.

Deputies entered the home and found two men struggling with Gonzalez in the living room.  Gonzalez had a knife and had already stabbed one of the men in the head several times.  During the altercation, both victims received multiple cuts and abrasions to their hands and faces.

Deputies removed the victims from the area and disarmed Gonzalez. The suspect fought with the deputies as they attempted to arrest him.  A TASER failed to subdue Gonzalez. He tried to take the weapon away from the deputy but was unsuccessful.

The suspect attempted to take a deputy's firearm but failed.  Gonzalez punched and headbutted the law enforcement officer, but was arrested. Two deputies received minor injuries as a result.

Detectives investigated the scene. An investigation revealed that Gonzalez jumped fences and walked through backyards in the neighborhood when he was confronted by the elderly male resident in the 14000 block of Hanford-Armona Road.  The suspect drew a knife and forced him inside his home.  Gonzalez entered the home and held the family at knifepoint.  The younger male victim attempted to disarm Gonzalez who allowed the female victim to escape out the front door where she was able to flag down a passing deputy.

Gonzalez has a history of assaults on correctional staff, resisting arrest, weapons offenses, narcotics sales and possession of stolen property.
