Lemoore’s lady volleyballers get back to Central Section competition on Tuesday when they host visiting Tulare Union. The Tigers are fresh from a respectable showing in the Las Vegas Bishop Gorman Invitational where they won three of six matches.

Lemoore is 6-3 on the season after winning its first three games in the tournament. On Friday, the Tigers beat Sierra Vista in the opening match 25-23 and 25-11. Round two had Lemoore crushing Sunrise Mountain 25-6, 25-5.

In the day’s final match, Lemoore continued its unbeaten streak with a 25-21, 25-23 win to advance to Saturday’s championship round.

It wasn’t as easy on Saturday as Lemoore faced a tough Palo Verde team, which handed the Tigers a 25-14, 25-20 loss. The weekend ended with a narrow loss to tournament host Bishop Gorman. Lemoore won the opener 25-20 and fell 25-21 in the second match. The Gaels edged Lemoore 15-11 in the final set.

In the tourney's final match, Lemoore dropped a 2-0 decision to Carson High School.

Earlier Action

Lemoore’s varsity girls’ volleyball team remained perfect Tuesday night when it defeated visiting Sunnyside High School in the school’s Event Center. Granted, it was the season opener for the Tigers. However, they sent a strong message that this year’s team may have the tools to compete in the always tough West Yosemite League.

Lemoore improved to 2-0 by crushing Edison High School on Thursday 3-0. The Tigers won in straight sets, 25-21, 25-22 and 25-9.

In fact, it was a good night all around for the school’s volleyball program as the freshmen, and junior varsity teams also won.

The varsity squad easily got past Sunnyside 25-8, 25-15 and 25-16.

Lemoore is scheduled to play Coalinga High School on Tuesday (Aug. 29) at 6 p.m. in Coalinga.
