Lemoore High School’s Marcio Botelho, the Tigers’ wrestling coach for the past ten years, has accepted a job as the West Hills College Lemoore wrestling coach replacing the successful Kent Olson, who recently retired.

Olson also coached wrestling at Lemoore High School, turning the wrestling program into a high school powerhouse, producing several state champions and earning numerous West Yosemite League championships.

Botelho got the gig in August, and he’s already at work. His Golden Eagles are 2-1 early in the Fall campaign and have a dual meet this Friday (Sept. 15) against Cuesta College. The match begins at 6 p.m. at the Golden Eagle Arena. Students with school IDs get in free.

“It will be our home debut,” said Botelho, who remains as the Tigers’ head coach. “I’m still working at the high school. We also did well in a tournament in Bakersfield last Saturday. We wrestled three times,” beating Moorpark and Santa Ana before dropping a match to 2016 state runner-up Cerritos Junior College.

Joining Botelho as assistants are longtime LHS coach Armondo Calderon and former Reedley coach Fernando Camargo.

His roster of 30 athletes includes at least six former Tigers, and they’ll have plenty of opportunities to showcase their talent. The Golden Eagles will host their annual tournament on Saturday, Sept. 23, an all-day match slated to begin at 9 a.m.

Botelho’s team will have a Friday night tune-up when it hosts East Los Angeles and Lassen College in a dual meet.
