Lemoore Elementary School was placed on a brief lockdown Wednesday, Oct. 25, when a Lemoore police officer chased down an escaping vehicle about 1 p.m.

The Lemoore officer made a high-risk traffic stop, and ultimately its occupants were arrested with further incident.

It was about 1 p.m. on Wednesday near West Bush Street and Vine that an officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle did stop, but as the police officer pulled behind it, the suspects immediately sped off and traveled southbound onto Vine Street, attempting to evade the police.

The suspect driver made a U-turn on Ash Street, but the officer tried to block the vehicle’s path. The driver drove his car around the patrol car and continued northbound.

A passenger in the fleeing car tossed something from the vehicle. The driver abruptly pulled over and stopped and surrendered.

Police identified the driver as 24-year-old Carlos Quair. Quair was wanted on a probation violation warrant at the time of his arrest. The passenger was identified as Luke Cline, 21. Cline was found to be on active Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) and taken into custody for a violation.

The items thrown from the car during the incident were later found to be beer bottles.

Both suspects were transported and booked into the Kings County Jail for probation violations. Quair was charged with driving while unlicensed and fleeing from a police officer. Due to the probation violation, both subjects are being held without bail.

Due to the proximity to the Lemoore Elementary School and for the safety of the students and staff on campus, there was a brief lockdown while police pursued the suspects.
