Tiger diamond teams struggle as baseball, softball season opens with tourney play

Lemoore’s varsity girls’ softball team is off to a slow start, dropping a 6-1 game at Tulare Union on Feb. 28. Tiger pitcher Ashtyn Lucas gave up 14 hits in six innings to get tagged with the loss.

Lemoore’s boys’ baseball team hasn’t fared much better, dropping four of their first five games. On Thursday, March 7 the Tigers won their first game, a 9-0 win over Chowchilla in the CVDC Tournament. They play Reedley on March 10 in tournament action. Lemoore is 1-4 overall.

At the plate Sierra Phelps was the only Tiger to get more than one hit in the softball team's opener, She finished with a pair of hits and scored the Tigers only run in the seventh inning.

Tulare’s Brianna Stephens had the best day at the plate, getting three hits in three trips to the plate. The big blow for the Tigers was in the fourth inning when Tulare scored four times for a 5-0 advantage.

Lemoore’s softballers are 0-1 heading into the Bakersfield Drillers Softball Tournament, which begins today (March 8). The Tigers will take on Chavez High School in the tourney opener.

The Tigers will play through Saturday. Upcoming games include Frazier Mountain today and McFarland and Bakersfield High tomorrow (March 9).

The Tigers will open West Yosemite League play on March 20 with a game at Hanford West.
