A pair of brazen would-be burglars were interrupted on Saturday morning (March 10) about 9:50 a.m. when Kings County Sheriff’s officers found them removing items from a 10th Avenue home.

Deputies responded to the suspected burglary and encountered two subjects removing items from the vacant home and then loading them into a near-by Toyota pickup. According to reports, one of the suspects is a Kings County Deputy Probation Officer, Jesse Mazuka, 40.

The subjects were identified by law enforcement officials as Mazuka, and Nicolas Cuevas, 19.  Upon further investigation, deputies discovered the men removed a door to the residence to gain entry, and once inside they began to take several items from inside the house, including wood trim and antique bathroom fixtures.

Investigators spoke to the owner of the house who told them that he had not given anyone permission to enter or remove items from his residence.  Both men admitted they did not have permission from the owner of the property to remove the items but did so anyway.

A search warrant on a suspect’s residence revealed additional stolen property taken from the victim’s home.

Both men were arrested and booked into the Kings County Jail for burglary and possession of stolen property.

In the initial investigation, deputies said both men were Kings County employees.  Neither was on duty at the time of arrest.   Cuevas was a part-time/at-will employee who is no longer employed by the County.  Mazuka's status is a Kings County personnel matter.

This investigation is ongoing.
