Lady Tigers softball continue losing streak, varsity boys finally end theirs with Thursday win
The Lady Tigers who will attempt to rebound from its eight-game losing streak, will host Hanford West on Monday, April 23. Lemoore is 1-5 in the WYL and 9-13 overall. Lemoore also dropped a 6-1 decision to Hanford Tuesday afternoon.
The Huskies blew it open early, scoring eight times in the first inning, added a run in the second and another in the third to blow out Lemoore, a team that showed real promise in the pre-season. Tiger pitching gave up 11 hits while the Tigers struggled at the plate with just three.
Earlier in the week at Hanford, the Tigers again struggle at the plate with just four hits. Hanford didn’t do much better with five hits off starter Ashtyn Lucas but still managed to score six times to improve to 3-2 in the WYL.
“It was a pretty frustrating game,” said Tiger Coach Dionne Ewing obviously disappointed in her team’s losing streak. “We are causing our own trouble right now and have been for the past couple of weeks,” she said. “This is still a very strong team that is capable of great things. We have just lost our way a bit and maybe lost some faith as well.”
Ewing expects the girls to turn around and return to their winning ways. “They just need to start believing in themselves and each other.”
Lemoore’s varsity boys scheduled a break from league play and will travel to Kingsburg for a non-league matchup with the Vikings on Saturday but will return to WYL play with a Tuesday game at El Diamante High School. The Tigers are currently 1-4 in league and 3-16 overall.
On Thursday Lemoore ended its 11-game losing streak with its win over the Pioneers. On Tuesday the Tigers dropped a 3-2 decision to Mt. Whitney. Anfernee Murrieta led the Tiger assault with three hits on the day and an RBI. Jayson Olaes brought home two runs with a hit while Jack Foote had two RBI and a single.
The Tigers had eight hits on the day. Jared Holaday went six innings for the Tigers, giving up eight hits and striking out six to earn the victory.
