A Hanford man suspected in a domestic violence incident led Kings County sheriff’s deputies on a chase through the city of Hanford, and after pulling over, held a female victim hostage before deputies took the man to the ground and arrested him.

The September 11 incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. when deputies attempted a traffic stop on a tan Chevrolet Tahoe. The suspect, Matthew Bell, reportedly was involved in a domestic violence incident. He was following the victim, who attempted to flee in a separate vehicle.

When deputies tried to stop Bell, the victim pulled over, but Bell refused to stop. Instead, he led the officers on a pursuit through Hanford. The chase concluded when Bell abandoned his moving vehicle and took the victim hostage. Bell, according to deputies, pleaded with them to shoot him while holding the victim hostage.

Deputies took Bell to the ground and separated the victim from him. During a struggle, the suspect assaulted deputies before finally taking him into custody.

The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident. Bell was booked into the Kings County Jail on suspicion of felony pursuit, obstructing or resisting by way of violence, battery on a peace officer, and kidnapping.
