LHS Sports Roundup: Tiger teams struggling as league campaigns continue

Lemoore’s varsity girls’ tennis team takes a 4-3 West Yosemite League record into a Monday, Oct. 1 match at Golden West. The Tiger are coming off a pair of disappointing losses, a 9-0 loss to Redwood on Sept. 24 and a 5-4 heartbreaker to El Diamante Wednesday on the Lemoore courts.

Lemoore is 10-6-1 overall.

Lemoore has just three matches left in the 2018 WYL campaign, including an Oct. 1 match at Golden West, and n Oct. 3 contest at Mt. Whitney. The Tigers end the season on their home courts against Hanford on Oct. 9.

In Wednesday’s narrow home loss, Madison Kuntz and Aliana Cabuhat won their singles matches, but the Miners won the next four games to take the team lead.

In doubles action Jenny Paez and Christina Nguyen won their doubles match 8-6 while Kuntz and Marissa Salazar turned in an impressive performance to win Lemoore’s only other doubles match 8-3.

Water Polo

Lemoore’s boys’ water polo team will take a 0-4 WYL record into Tuesday’s (Oct. 2) match at Hanford High School. The Bullpups are 2-2 in league play.

The Tigers have lost eight straight matches in compiling an overall 5-14 record. Lemoore’s latest loss was a disappointing 12-11 loss to Mt. Whitney Wednesday in the Lemoore pool. The day before, the Tigers dropped an 11-8 decision to Golden West.

Against the Pioneers, Lemoore took the early 4-2 first-quarter lead before the Pioneers came alive, scoring five times in the second period for a 7-5 advantage. It stayed fairly even in the second half as Mt. Whitney scored five goals to Lemoore’s six.

Volleyball

Lemoore’s varsity girls’ volleyball team is struggling a bit as it continues its run through the West Yosemite league, but the Lady Tigers are spending the weekend at Sunnyside High School for its annual tournament.

Lemoore is 7-9 overall and 1-3 in the WYL as it prepares to return to league play with an October 4 match at home against Redwood High School, currently 3-2 in the WYL.
