Lemoore’s varsity football team will try and salvage what has been a disappointing 2018 campaign when the Tigers host the West Yosemite League-leading Hanford Bullpups in an updated Tiger Stadium Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers, after winning their first two games, have been winless since then, compiling a 2-7 record, a statistic that isn’t going to get them into the Central Section playoffs next week.

The Bullpups are 6-3 and 4-0 in the WYL 49-24 win at Golden West. The Tigers, last week, lost 71-40 to the Trailblazers.

Lemoore’s latest disappointment came Friday night in Visalia when the Tigers dropped a 49-37 game to Mt. Whitney. The Pioneers are 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the league, but they were running on all cylinders Friday night, with a big offensive show.

The Tigers have played well offensively lately but just can’t keep the ball out of their opponents’ hands.

Tied at 15 after the first quarter the Pioneers scored twice in the second period to lead 29-15 at the half. Mt. Whitney outscored Lemoore 20-8 in the third quarter to lead 49-23 by the end of the third, and by then it may have been too late for the Tigers as they scored twice in the fourth to cut the gap to 49-37.

Tigers volleyball 16th seed in Division II

Lemoore’s volleyball team earned the 16th and final seed in the upcoming Division II volleyball Central playoffs. The Tigers will open at No.1 Exeter High on Thursday, Oct. 25. Three other WYL schools earned spots in the playoffs, including Redwood, Mt. Whitney, and El Diamante.

The Tigers were 14-14 overall and 3-7 in the demanding WYL.

Lemoore lost their final two league games, a 3-2 decision to Hanford in the Oct. 17 league final and an Oct. 16 match where the Tigers fell 3-0 to Mt. Whitney.

The finale, held at Lemoore High School, was a nail-biter as the two teams went five sets before the Bullpups prevailed 15-12 in the fifth set. Lemoore beat Hanford 25-17 in the opening set before falling 25-22 in the second. The Tigers fought back in the third, winning 25-17 but were forced into overtime when the Bullpups edged Lemoore 25-22.

Varsity girls’ tennis wins playoff opener, face Tulare Western Tuesday

Lemoore’s WYL second place team continues its playoff run on Tuesday with a home match. The Tigers will host Tulare Western in the second round of the Central Section Tennis Playoffs. The match is scheduled Oct. 23 at 4 p.m.

The No. 3 seed Tigers opened the Division III playoffs with an easy 9-0 win over Hoover High School. Tuesday’s winner will play the victor of the Independence-North matchup on Oct. 31.

Redwood High School won the WYL with a perfect 10-0 record.

In the Central Section opener against Hoover, Lemoore completely outplayed the Patriots 9-0. Madison Kuntz, Aliana Cabuhat, Paige Clarke, Jenny Paez, Christina Nguyen, and Sophia Gregoria all won their singles matches in easy fashion. None of the Tigers faced serious competition. Only Kuntz allowed her opponent more than two points, but still won 6-3, 7-5.

Paez and Nguyen easily won their doubles match 8-4 while Marissa Salazar and Louelle Braga beat their opponents 8-6., Hannah Raber and Ashley Phelps easy won 8-0.
