Kings Sergeant earns national distinction as first-ever certified SWAT operator

The organization, CATO, on Nov. 5 awarded Barsteceanu, a Certificate of Achievement as a Special Weapons and Tactics Operator. The certification comes after four years or research, in which CATO developed a detailed program that focuses on ensuring competency for law enforcement personnel acting in the capacity of a SWAT operator.
The program requires demonstration of competence in knowledge, personal initiative, and experience, as well as successfully passing a written examination. Sergeant Barsteceanu demonstrated his proficiency, skill level, and determination by completing the rigorous process but also as the first to complete the program.
Barsteceanu was recognized for his achievement at this year's CATO Training Conference held in Reno, Nevada. In recognition of his achievement, C.A.T.O. presented him with a certificate, operator pin, and patches in front of fellow association members as well as his present team members.
Sheriff David Robinson and the Kings County Sheriff's Office would like to publicly recognize and thank Sergeant Chris Barsteceanu for his continued commitment to the Kings County SWAT team and to his unwavering commitment to keeping his community and those he works alongside safe.
