With only one game left in the race for the West Yosemite League championship, the Tigers managed to win – with its 9-0 record – the title. Lemoore’s talented hoopsters assured themselves of the championship after defeating Mt. Whitney (7-2) 64-52 in the Event Center Thursday night.

The Tigers, 18-5, take Highway 198 to Hanford on Feb. 6 to conclude its regular season.

Two days before, the Tigers crushed Golden West 57-47 to take them a step closer to the title.

Against the Trailblazers Lemoore led most of the way until letting up a bit in the fourth quarter as the Blazers outscored Lemoore 14-9.

The Tigers didn’t have it as easy against the Pioneers who after three quarters trailed just trailed the Tigers by just five points at 39-34. But Lemoore came up with a 25-point quarter in the fourth to provide a final cushion.

In Visalia, the Lemoore girl’ basketball team defeated the Pioneers 58-55 and that win coupled with its 56-44 loss earlier in the week to Golden West left the Tigers at 3-6 in the WYL as they plan to host Hanford Tuesday night in the Event Center.

The Tiger girls are 10-13 overall.

In Lemoore boys’ soccer action, the Tigers remain trail just Golden West for the league’s top spot at 7-2. Lemoore, at 13-5-2 overall, will host Hanford in the league finale Wednesday, Feb. 6. The Tigers defeated Mt. Whitney 6-0 after scoring three goals in the first half and another three in the second.

The Lemoore girls’ soccer ladies remain winless in the WYL after tying visiting Mt. Whitney 0-0 after overtime.
