Lemoore’s varsity baseball team fell to 3-6 overall following an 11-1 loss to Firebaugh, just days after a convincing 8-1 victory over Sunnyside on the Tigers’ home field. Lemoore hits the road on Wednesday, March 20 when it tackles Coalinga in another non-league game.

In softball action, the Tigers poured it on Memorial in a tournament game in Fresno Thursday afternoon 12-1 but suffered a narrow 2-0 loss to Dos Palos as the Tigers fell to 2-2 overall. The Tigers had another game schedule Saturday in the Madera South Tournament, then a game at Tulare Western on March 19.

In the Memorial win, Lemoore’s Madison Martinez and Kyleigh Allen swung the big bats for the Tigers. Allen was three for three in the game with an RBI and three runs scored, while Martinez had three hits in four trips to the plate and scored twice.

As a team, Lemoore lashed out for 14 hits in the game to win 12-1. Lemoore’s Leslie Segura earned the win, going the distance, giving up just two hits, one run, and striking out three batters.

The ladies weren’t as fortunate against Dos Palos, falling 2-0 in a no-hitter tossed by Dos Palos pitcher Janessa Jasso. The Broncos have a dominant team, led by Jasso, and are 9-0 to start the season.

Tennis

Lemoore’s boys’ tennis team improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the West Yosemite League after its convincing 8-1 Thursday victory over Golden West. The Tigers also beat  El Diamante earlier in the week (March 12)  9-0 to keep pace with 11-0 Mt. Whitney.

The Tigers only loss against the Trailblazers came in doubles action when Pete Hawken and Mathew Ramirez fell 8-5. The good news was that the rest of Lemoore’s singles and doubles players more than made up for the lone loss.

In singles Luis Renteria won 6-1, 3-6, winning in a tiebreaker as did Marjaby Bresenio who defeated his Golden West opponent 4-6, 6-2, then prevailed in his tiebreaker.

In other singles actions, Jonathan Santiago won 7-5, 6-2 while Hawken easily defeated his opponent 6-2, 7-5. Ramirez won 6-1, 6-1 while Chris Beltran easily got past his foe 6-2, 6-2.

In other doubles action, Bresenio and Jonathan Santiago won 8-4, and Nick Ibarra and Chase Garcia easily got past their opponents 8-4.

Lemoore’s next action is slated for Tuesday (March 19) at home against WYL leading Mt. Whitney at 4 p.m. and then a trip to Hanford on March 21.
