Lemoore's first planning director, Nakul "Nick" Verma, passes away. Served city for 18 years

Lemoore's first planning director, Nakul “Nick” Verma passed away on May 11, 2019. 

He was born on December 27, 1935, in Delhi, India.  In 1969, Nick arrived in the United States with his wife Kamlesh and son Ashish to attend graduate school at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Delhi University, a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a master’s degree in city planning from Kansas State University.

In his long-distinguished city planning career that spanned over 30 years, Nick served as the Planning Director in North Platte, Nebraska; Laramie, Wyoming; and Kalispell and Flathead County, Montana before arriving in Lemoore in 1986 to become the city’s first planning director.  In his 18-year tenure as Lemoore’s planning director, he played a significant role in guiding the city through a long phase of significant growth.

After retiring from the city of Lemoore in 2004, Nick volunteered with the Kings County Economic Development Corporation.

Nick was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Kamlesh, who passed away in 2015

He is survived by his sons Ashish and Vikas (Vik).
