Lemoore High School is 118 years old, but it’s certainly aging well as its $25 million facelift - courtesy of Measure L - continues. According to school officials, the local comprehensive high school on Wednesday welcomed 1,950 students to the first day of school.

The entire school district, which includes, Jamison High School, Lemoore Middle College High School, the Online College Prepatory High School brings the overall district enrollment to 2,292.

The Lemoore High School District also offers an adult school, but those numbers aren’t in yet.

Twenty new teachers greeted the student throng on Wednesday. Four of those 20 teachers are LHS grads. The high school will have an international flair as eight foreign exchange students begin the new academic year.

According to Lemoore High School Superintendent Debbie Muro, construction continues on campus as the picturesque facility continues its building facelift, an effort funded by the $24 million bond measure passed in 2016.

The renovation began with an overhaul last year of Tiger Stadium as two new snack bars and a new locker room facility were added.

”Pool renovation should be done in the next three weeks,” Said Muro. She added that phase one of Jamison High School renovation should be done in a couple of weeks, and phase two should begin in January.

A pair of classrooms were added to the school’s ag farm, and a new tennis court will begin construction in December.

One of the district’s major projects is the demolition next year of one of the school’s oldest structures, the small gymnasium, located in the heart of the main campus. The adjacent home economics building, just east of the small gym, is also slated to be demolished, and in its place school officials say a new classroom complex will be constructed at a cost of $6.5 million.
