Kings County Deputy Sheriff stops suspect and finds felon in possession of a handgun

In the early morning hours of Monday, November 18, 2019, a Kings County Deputy Sheriff noticed a silver Cadillac traveling north on 12th Avenue near the City of Hanford commit a traffic violation.

The deputy made a traffic enforcement stop in a Circle K parking lot at 12th Avenue and Hanford Armona Road.

The deputy contacted the driver, John Campos, 22, the vehicle’s only occupant. The deputy noticed a strong odor of Marijuana from inside of the car. He searched the car and found a .40 caliber Glock 27 handgun inside a concealed compartment in the Cadillac’s dash. A loaded ammunition magazine was located next to the handgun.

During the investigation, the deputy learned that Cadillac belonged to Campos.  The suspect, Campos, has previously been convicted of a felony, which prohibited him from owning or possessing a firearm. The deputy also discovered that the suspect was a gang registrant and associated with the Norteno criminal street gang.

The suspect, Campos, was booked into the Kings County Jail on multiple felony charges.  His bail was set at $70,000.
