Tigers hoop teams get off to slow start as teams look forward to holiday basketball tourneys

Lemoore’s High’s varsity girls’ basketball team dropped its season opener Thursday night in the Event Center. The Tigers hope to rebound in Corcoran when it begins its first tournament of the year in the Corcoran Girls Varsity Basketball Tournament that begins Dec. 4

Lemoore fell to 0-1 on the season and will face North High School Dec. 4 in the Corcoran Girls Varsity Basketball Tournament.

Lemoore hosted Selma on Thursday night and despite scoring just 19 second-half points, managed to keep the score relatively close, but still lost 53-41.

The two teams scored almost at will in the first quarter and the Bears lead 30-22 at the break. But both teams failed to score a point in the second quarter before the Bears finally broke loose in the third, outscoring Lemoore 11-2 to take up their lead.

The Tigers came on strong in the fourth, outscoring Selma 17-12.

Lemoore’s varsity boys team fell to 0-2 on the year, dropping a disappointing 90-62 matchup with Oakland Tech Thursday night in the opener of the Valley Children’s Tip Off Invitational. On Nov. 19 Tulare Western defeated the Tigers 70-58.

The Tigers have games scheduled for Friday and Saturday in the tournament.
