In the evening hours of Saturday, December 14, 2019, a Kings County deputy sheriff spotted a 1994 Mercury Tracer traveling south on 12th Avenue near Everett Avenue. He noticed an expired registration and attempted to stop the driver.

The driver, later identified as 54-year-old suspect Billy Darnell, in an effort to flee, sped off, turning onto a dirt road near a dairy.

Deputies pursued the Mercury on surface streets and dirt roads for approximately 25 minutes and covered about 20 miles at high speeds. During the chase, the suspect, Darnell, failed to stop at seven stops signs and drove in the opposing lane several times. Deputies say that the suspect showed very little to no concern for the safety of other motorists on the roadway.

The pursuit concluded in Fresno County near a dairy in the 1700 Block of Mt. Whitney Avenue where Darnell was taken into custody. A female passenger was questioned and released. It was ultimately discovered that the suspect, Darnell, was had a suspended driver's license and had six outstanding warrants for his arrest, including three felony warrants.

Darnell was booked into the Kings County Jail without bail.
