In the early evening hours of Sunday, February 9, a Kings County deputy, working patrol in the area of 14th Ave and Iona Ave., noticed a green 1993 Honda Accord speeding and then watched as the driver failed to stop at an intersection.
The deputy, when he tried to stop on the vehicle’s driver, watched the suspect, later identified as Seferino Zamudio (40), refuse to pull over and instead sped away, turning east onto Highway 198.
Deputies pursued Seferino as he sped to 85 miles per hour on Highway 198, eventually turning northbound on to 9th Ave, where he once again failed to stop at required intersections.
While still being chased, the suspect drove several more miles, running a red light at the Highway 43 intersection. The chase continued into Tulare County, reaching Woodville, a small community located between Tipton and Porterville.
The suspect, Seferino, exited his vehicle and ran through multiple back yards, causing the pursuing deputies to lose him temporarily. Fortunately, the Kings County Air Unit (Sky King One) flying overhead, located Seferino lying down, attempting to conceal himself. Sky King One directed deputies to the suspect where they arrested him.
Seferino, according to a report, stated he had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, and he “took off” apparently fearing he might be arrested.
Seferino, while being booked, admitted to prior prison terms. He was booked into the Kings County Jail on $195,000 bail.
