Tigers one win away from spot in Central Section Division 3 championship game; take on Highland High School Feb. 19 in semifinals
The Central Section title game is scheduled for Feb. 21.
While the 17-6-3 Tigers tackle Highland (19-5-1), the Scots South Yosemite League foe, Foothill – the SYL champion at 21-1-2 – will face 13th seeded East Bakersfield. Obviously, if the Tigers get past Highland, they’ll play the winner.
If East Bakersfield were to upset Foothill, Lemoore could host the championship game in Tiger Stadium.
Lemoore’s varsity soccer team put themselves in this enviable position by easily getting past visiting Porterville Thursday night in Tiger Stadium, beating the Panthers 3-0.
Coach Eric Bow’s young upstarts, the West Yosemite League’s No. 2 team, got a pair of first-half goals from team leader Diego Nunez and one late in the second half from PJ Villegas to easily get past the visiting Panthers. Unfortunately, Nunez, the Tigers leading scorer this season, injured his hamstring late in the game and may have to miss the remaining playoff games.
