Former Tiger Jack Foote providing the hits for Fresno Pacific's Sunbirds baseball
Foote, an infielder for the Sunbirds, is a redshirt freshman. He is a Lemoore High School graduate who excelled for the Tigers in baseball and football. The talented player served as the Tigers' team captain for two years and was the team MVP twice in baseball. He's the son of Lanette and Jon Foote.
According to the Pac West web site, the Fresno Pacific freshman was named Freshman of the Week. Foote recorded eight hits last week as he helped the Sunbirds win three of four games against Holy Names.
He also drove in five RBI for the series and reached base at a 56% clip.
"The player we saw last week was the player we have always believed Jack can be, so it's awesome to see him turn the corner and start to settle in as a college player," head coach Oscar Hirschkorn said. "Our lineup has a chance to be one of the best in the region because we can hurt you in a number of ways, and I am confident that Jack will continue to be an integral part of that."
The freshman opened the series with a two for four performance for his first career multi-hit game. In the next game, he went 1 for 3 with a walk and an RBI. In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, Foote went 4 for five and drove in four runs, doubling his career total for RBIs. He added another hit in the finale and scored a run, boosting his average to .308.
Fresno Pacific, currently 7-7, during the preseason play in the PacWest Conference and, will begin conference play in March against Concordia in Irvine.
The Sunbirds have won two of their first four series of the year and earned a split in another. The Blue and Orange are back in action this week with a four-game set slated to begin on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
