Fallen Heroes Lemoore fundraiser attracts over 350. All funds go to the families
Temores was Lemoore native who was killed while on duty guarding the gate at a Virginia naval base when a civilian driving a truck barreled onto the installation, traveling on the wrong side of the road and struck the 23-year-old sailor. The Lemoore man died from his injuries in an area hospital a short time later.
Diaz died after trying to intervene in a domestic violence incident in Hanford in November of 2019. Diaz was a well-liked officer within the Lemoore Police Department whose loss was felt deeply by friends, family, and the law enforcement community.
The fundraiser, featuring a Cornhole Tournament and Brew Fest with local beer and food trucks, a silent auction, and raffle, all of which began at 1 p.m. at the Lemoore Recreation Center Saturday afternoon (Feb. 29).
While the Lemoore Police Officers Association, the Lemoore Chamber of Commerce, and several local businesses helped to sponsor the event, officials are still counting the money, all of which is expected to be donated to the families.
“It was an amazing event. It far exceeded our expectations for sure,” said Amy Ward, of the Lemoore Chamber. “This was an idea … to help their fallen brothers.”
All funds go to the two families. “All the beer was donated by three breweries, Hanford’s Hop Forged Brewery, Lemoore’s Bird Street Brewery, and Fresno’s Tactical Ops Brewery,” said Ward.
“100 percent of what we brought in from ticket sales, and the raffle, is going to the families,” said Ward. “We just want to thank the community. It was obvious our community came together to support our fallen heroes.”
