Kings County Sheriff's Office deputies, on Friday, April 16, arrested a Hanford suspect after he initially refused to surrender while hunkering down in his residence. It took the presence of the county's SWAT team and a Crisis Resolution Team to convince him to give up.

The suspect, Lawrence Andrews, 41, subsequently surrendered to deputies after Kings County SWAT team members and the Crisis Resolution Team (CRT) arrived on the scene. However, it was not until CRT members spoke with Andrews that he was convinced to surrender.

The investigation began on Friday, April 10, at about 8 p.m. when deputies took on an assault investigation that started when they located a 39-year-old man lying in the middle of the road with facial injuries. The male told deputies that two male subjects punched him.

The victim was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia and treated for his injuries. The victim's jaw was broken in multiple places, requiring wiring to his jaw.

The investigation was turned over to the Kings County Detectives Unit.

Detectives identified a suspect as Lawrence Andrews, who, according to records, had active warrants for assault and a misdemeanor for public intoxication.

On Thursday, April 16, at approximately 3:15 p.m., detectives found Andres at a residence in Hanford. The suspect ran out of the house into the backyard, and upon seeing detectives, he immediately ran back into the home, initially refusing to exit.

Detectives requested the assistance of the Patrol Division, the KCSO SWAT Team, and the Crisis Resolution Team (CRT). They also requested a search warrant, which was signed by a Kings County judge.

The SWAT Team surrounded the residence and called for Andrews to exit the residence, but he failed to do so. After several attempts, CRT contacted Andrews by phone and talked him into surrendering. Eventually, Andrews walked out of the front door and surrendered to the SWAT Team.

Andrews was transported and booked into the Kings County Jail for violation of PC 243(d), Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Injury, PC 148, resisting/Delaying/Obstructing a Peace Officer and the two confirmed warrants.
