With some help from the Dinuba Police Department, Kings County detectives arrested a suspect they believed was responsible for an April 24 stabbing incident in Hanford.

It was on Friday, April 24 at about 10:30 p.m. that deputies responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of Thilda and Kruger avenues.

When they arrived on the scene, deputies found a 37-year-old male victim lying in the street with a stab wound to his chest. The victim provided a statement at the scene and was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center.

Detectives spoke to the victim at the hospital, and he identified the suspect as 48-year-old Rusty Sample. He told detectives that after he was stabbed, he was dragged into the front yard of Sample’s home and assaulted.

On Tuesday, April 28,  at about 8:30 a.m., Kings County detectives got a call from the Dinuba Police Department. Dinuba officers located Sample's truck in a hotel parking lot in Dinuba.  Dinuba Police Department officers watched the truck until members from the Kings County Major Crimes Task Force responded and took over.

Investigators from the Major Crimes Task Force, KCSO detectives, and the Dinuba Police Department converged as Sample left his motel room to arrest him.  Sample refused to follow orders and fought with officers during his arrest.

After a brief struggle, he was taken into custody.  Sample was booked into the Kings County Jail. His bail was $625,000.
