A Kings County deputy, while patrolling near the Santa Rosa Rancheria on Tuesday, August 11, at about 11 p.m., learned that a suspect, Rosendo Mejia, wanted on a felony warrant, was spotted driving a lifted black Chevrolet Silverado truck.
The Deputy spotted the Silverado and confirmed that Mejia was driving. The suspect, Mejia, refused to pull over when detected by the deputy and sped away.
A pursuit ensued, and during the chase, Mejia drove recklessly, driving on the wrong side of the road with the truck’s headlights turned off. He drove the truck over a sidewalk curb and through the front yard of a residence.
He eventually drove the truck off-road, creating a significant dust cloud. The dust caused the deputy to lose sight of Rosendo, and the pursuit was discontinued.
It was on Friday, August 21, at about 3 a.m. that another deputy spotted the black Chevrolet Silverado parked at the Tachi Yocut Gas Station. As the deputy approached the truck, he recognized Mejia. The suspect’s eyes grew wide as he saw the deputy approaching. He turned and ran from the deputy, who began chasing. After a short foot pursuit, Mejia stopped running and surrendered to the deputy.
The deputy booked Mejia into the Kings County Jail. Charges include 2800.2(f) VC, 148(a)(1) PC, Felony warrant 10851 VC, and Misdemeanor warrant 148(a)(1) PC. His bail was set at $395,000.
