The planned purchase of a Versace belt, according to Kings County Sheriff’s officials, turned into a suspected robbery. The suspected theft took place on Thursday, September 10, at approximately 6 p.m. in Armona.

The victim, Jason Harris, earlier arranged to purchase a Versace belt from a suspect, Christopher Chavez,  someone he knew in high school. The two planned to meet in Armona to complete the sale. Chavez arrived at the prearranged time with four other males in a white four-door Chevrolet Malibu.

Upon arrival, Harris gave Christopher, who sat in the rear seat, money for the belt. Chavez placed the money on the seat and then pulled out a handgun. Harris reached into the car through the rear window in an attempt to retrieve his money, but Chavez motioned for the driver to drive away.

The driver, later identified by deputies as Ramon Garcia, drove off with Harris still partially inside the vehicle. The vehicle dragged Harris for about one block before he fell from car. Harris sustained road rash type injuries and was treated at an area hospital.

All five suspects in the car were later identified as Ramon Garcia, Luke Whisenant, Diego Huerta, Christopher Chavez, and one juvenile. The four adults were later arrested and confessed to planning the robbery.

They were each booked into Kings County Jail on felony charges of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit a felony.
