A Lemoore police officer was forced to pursue a suspected drunk driver on October 8 at about 6:30 p.m. when he  attempted to stop the suspect’s vehicle on Lemoore’s Fallen Leaf Drive.

The suspected driver was 24-year-old Esgar Martinez Vital, of Hanford. An anonymous caller helped police by updating the suspect’s location. Multiple reports say the suspect’s vehicle was swerving and nearly crashed. One reporting party believed that Vital was driving intoxicated.

As the officer attempted to contact Vital, the suspect fled in his vehicle, and after a short pursuit Vital collided with another vehicle on North Lemoore Avenue. Police say Vital ran a red light at North Lemoore Avenue and Cinnamon Drive, causing the collision.

Vital was not injured in the crash. The other driver was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated and later released.

Lemoore police arrested Vital and booked him into Kings County Jail for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and causing an injury. He was also charged with evading a police officer causing an injury and evading an officer while driving the wrong way and driving on a suspended license for DUI. Bail was fixed at $55,000.
