On Friday, January 8, at about 9:20 p.m., a Kings County deputy, while patrolling the area of 10 ½ Avenue and Lansing Avenue near the City of Corcoran, noticed a dark-colored BMW traveling west on Lansing fail to stop at a posted stop sign.

The deputy attempted a traffic stop for possible violations, and while doing so, noticed the driver swerving sporadically across both lanes of travel.

Later identified as suspect Jesse Gomez, the driver failed to yield and instead increased his speed to 110 miles per hour. Giving chase, the deputy observed Jesse drive several times into the oncoming lane of travel and deactivate the vehicle's headlights. As the suspect entered the Corcoran city limits, he increased his vehicle's speed to 130 miles per hour and once again began to drive in the opposing lane.

Kings County Dispatch notified the Corcoran Police Department, and Corcoran officers assisted, successfully deploying spike strips that deflated the BMW tires. Despite the impediments, the suspect continued in the BMW, failing to stop at several additional stop signs. The suspect then drove down a dirt driveway, onto a canal bank, and into a dirt field where the vehicle finally came to a stop.

Gomez exited the car and refused to obey the law enforcement officer’s commands. Instead, the suspect removed a dark-colored object from under his shirt, which he raised toward the deputies. Gomez suddenly fled on foot, and the Kings County Sheriff’s Department K-9 was used to take the suspect into custody.

The suspect, Gomez, according to reports,  continued to resist arrest and fought against K-9 Dash. Deputies, after a brief struggle, finally arrested the suspect.

The suspect, Gomez, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he was issued a citation to appear given the extensive medical treatment required due to his apprehension.
