On Friday, January 1, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Kings County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in Kettleman City for a possible shooting investigation.  Upon arrival, deputies located the victim, 38-year-old Gilberto Madera, deceased and lying in the residence with gunshot wounds.

Detectives quickly responded and took over the investigation.  During the course of the investigation, deputies identified a suspect, Gilberto’s brother, Rafael Hernandez.  Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Rafael from the Kings County Superior Courts.

It wasn’t until Thursday, January 14, that Kings County Major Crimes Task Force investigators found Rafael Hernandez in Kettleman City.  The suspect, Hernandez, was taken into custody without incident and was transported to the Kings County Jail and booked for the no bail PC 187 (Homicide) warrant.

Deputies ask that anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective Andrew Mazza at (559) 852-4647 or anonymously (559) 852-4554.
