Lemoore police officers on Sunday (May 9), at about 8:30 a.m., responded quickly to the report of a possible domestic violence incident occurring at a hotel at the intersection of D Street and Bush Street.

Upon their arrival, police discovered that the suspect,  later identified as Brandon Grisson, 27, from Fresno County, was possibly armed with an assault-type rifle and a handgun.

Officers also cleared the local business area of customers and bystanders.

“At that point, the officers did what they could to communicate with the suspect and get to him to surrender. He did not,” said Lemoore Police Department Lt. Alvaro Santos.

Santos told The Leader that local law enforcement obtained a warrant for his arrest, and because he was armed, the officers had to set up a perimeter so he wouldn’t pose a danger to passers-by.

According to Santos, Lemoore officers tried for hours to get Grisson to surrender. As negotiations failed to get the suspect to surrender, Lemoore officers requested assistance from the Central Valley Regional SWAT Team, currently made up of officers from Hanford, Lemoore, Corcoran, and Avenal.

“They responded to the scene, and once they arrived, the suspect surrendered. We were lucky enough that no one was hurt,” said Santos.

Police officers did, in fact, find a rifle with ammunition and a pistol. Grisson was by himself.

In addition to the SWAT team, six Lemoore Police Department officers were on the scene and members of the Kings County Sheriffs Department.

The suspect was taken into custody at approximately 1 p.m. ending a more than four-hour standoff.
