Lemoore High School spring season athletics end; playoffs loom for some teams

After a narrow loss to cross-county rival Hanford, Lemoore High School’s boys’ basketball team managed to easily outdistance San Luis Obispo High School 64-48 in the first round of the CIF Division 2 playoffs. The Tigers, 7-5 overall and 1-1  in the West Yosemite League during this pandemic year will host Roosevelt High School on Monday, June 7 at 5 p.m. in the second round of the playoffs.

After falling behind 7-19 early in the first quarter against the SLO Tigers, Lemoore regained its composure to take an 11-10 lead still and managed to hold off the Tigers for the remaining three quarters.

Lemoore’s varsity baseball team dropped its league closure, a 12-1 loss to visiting Hanford. The Tigers finished the regular season with a respectable 15-11 season. Lemoore finished fourth in the WYL with a 7-8 mark.

In ladies' softball action, the Tigers ended the year with an 11-0 loss to Hanford Wednesday afternoon at the Bullpups home diamond. The Lady Tigers finished at 4-14 overall and were 3-7 in the WYL.

On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers basketball team (5-4) Tuesday defeated Tulare Union on its home turf 72-57 in the playoffs opening contest. Next, the Lady Tigers will travel to Santa Maria for a second-round match against St. Joseph High School (16-6).
