Kings deputy, arrests suspects on weapons, drug charges

A Kings County Deputy Sheriff, while patrolling in the area of Jersey Avenue and State Route 41 in rural Kings Count on Thursday, Oct. 28  at about 1 p.m., spotted a Chevrolet Avalanche with an expired vehicle registration traveling in the area.

The deputy conducted a traffic enforcement stop, contacting the driver, who identified himself as Alberto Macias. Also, in the vehicle with Alberto were suspects Salvador Macias and Martha Sanchez.

As the investigation unfolded, the deputy learned that the suspect, Salvador Macias, was an active gang member and on probation for transporting narcotics, which gave the deputy power to search the suspect.

During a search of the area where the suspect, Salvador Macias, was seated, the deputy located drug paraphernalia. The deputy suspected that Salvador Macias may have been under the influence of a controlled substance (Methamphetamine) and placed him into custody.

Deputies noticed that the suspect, Sanchez, displayed symptoms from a possible controlled substance and evaluated her for drug use. The deputies determined that she was under the influence of a controlled substance (Methamphetamine) and placed her into custody.

During a search of the suspect’s purse, deputies located a loaded FMK 9 MM handgun. Deputies say the serial numbers on the weapon appeared to have been filed off, making it impossible to run records check on the firearm.

Deputies booked Salvador Macias into Kings County Jail on the charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was later released.

Sanchez was booked into Kings County Jail on the charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance while in possession of a loaded firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a loaded gun in public, carrying a concealed firearm inside a vehicle, and altering or removing identification on a firearm. Bail was set at $90,000.
