Detectives from the Kings County Rural Crimes Task Force responded to a report of subjects trespassing on the Kings River on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at about 9 a.m.

Upon arrival, detectives located a vehicle parked on the west side of the south fork of the Kings River. Deputies contacted a female, Susan Smith, who was walking around the vehicle. Deputies determined that Smith had a local traffic warrant issued for her arrest – with bail set at $5,000.

As the investigation unfolded, the law enforcement officials located a subject, Juan Torres, sitting in the passenger’s seat of the vehicle. Between his legs was a large machete knife.

Detectives secured the knife and asked Torres if he had any other weapons. The suspect told them he had a handgun in his waistband. Detectives conducted a search and located a 9mm Regard Girsan handgun in Juan’s waistband. The firearm contained 18 rounds of ammunition.

The female, Smith,  was issued a citation for the traffic warrant.

Deputies arrested Torres and booked him into the Kings County Jail, charging him with carrying a concealed weapon on his person. Bail was set at $25,000.
