A Kings County Deputy while patrolling in the area of Jersey Avenue and 17th Avenue in Lemoore, on Thursday, April 14, at approximately 11 p.m., spotted a Cadillac XLR and decided to run a registration check. He discovered that the Cadillac had been stolen in Tulare County.

The Sheriff’s Department identified a suspect, Ronald Battle, as the vehicle’s driver.

As the deputy closed the distance between the two, the suspect, Battle, sped off at speeds reaching 125 miles per hour as the deputy followed. At various points, Battle turned off the lights to the Cadillac in an effort to avoid detection, and soon lost control of the vehicle at 13th Avenue and Jersey Avenue, soon veering off the roadway and into an empty canal.

Deputies report that the suspect ran from the Cadillac but was located nearby in a tunnel that ran underneath 13th Avenue.

During a search of the suspect, Battle, authorities located 3.8 grams of Methamphetamine.

Deputies booked Battle into Kings County Jail on the charges of auto theft, possession of the stolen property, evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for public safety, and possession of a controlled substance. Bail was set at $70,000 and the suspect later posted bond.
