Kings County deputies, on January 29, 2022, at about 10:50 p.m., investigated a vehicle burglary. The victim told deputies that while inside the Kings Dance Center, a suspect broke into the rear window of a vehicle and took a wallet.
The wallet contained several credit cards the victim had since canceled due to the theft. The credit card companies contacted the victim as the cards were being used at several nearby stores.
Authorities obtained video footage from the 7-Eleven located on 11th Avenue and the Hanford Lowes, which showed the suspect using the stolen credit cards. Deputies were initially unable to identify the suspect.
On Saturday, April 23, 2022, deputies arrested a suspect, Norberto Lopez, for shining a laser at the sheriff’s office aircraft. Another deputy recognized Lopez as the subject in the surveillance videos using the stolen credit cards during the booking process.
During an interview, the suspect, Lopez, admitted to breaking into the victim’s vehicle and stealing the wallet. He also admitted to using credit cards to purchase items from the Hanford Lowes.
The case was submitted to the Kings County District Attorney’s Office for the charges of vehicle burglary, fraudulent use of a stolen credit card, vandalism, and grand theft.
