Kings County deputies, on Sunday, June 5 at about 2:50 a.m. investigated a noise complaint. It was reported that several subjects in the area of the 11500 block of 2nd Place in Hanford were causing a commotion by yelling and drinking.

A deputy arrived on the scene and noticed a male subject laying on his back on the shoulder of the roadway. The subject was identified as suspect Mark Scott, 35. The deputy parked nearby and walked up to Scott to check on his welfare. As the deputy drew closer, the suspect told the deputy that he was drunk.

The deputy also spotted the black grip of a semi-automatic firearm tucked into his waistband.

The deputy drew his firearm, announced he was from the Sheriff’s Office, and ordered the suspect, Scott, to show his hands. The suspect looked toward the deputy, made eye contact, and suddenly moved his hands toward the gun in his waistband.

The suspect turned onto his stomach so the deputy could no longer see what he was doing with his hands. The deputy made a split-second decision to get on top of the suspect and pin him to the ground.  The deputy saw that the gun was not in his hands. He noticed that a large crowd was beginning to gather around the two. Another deputy arrived on the scene and assisted with the arrest.

During the arrest, the gun had fallen down the suspect’s pant leg. Deputies discovered a black .40 caliber Springfield XD with ten rounds of ammunition in the magazine. Records check on the serial number revealed that the gun was stolen out of the City of Hanford.

Scott’s criminal history statement disclosed he had been previously convicted of several felonies including assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, and conspiracy.

Deputies also discovered 11.6 grams of Cocaine inside the suspect’s pants pocket.
