On Wednesday, July 27, at about 11:25 p.m., Kings County deputies found themselves dispatched to Idaho Avenue for a report of active mail theft. The homeowner believed someone in a burgundy Chevrolet Silverado may have stolen mail from the area.

A deputy located the Silverado near 11th Avenue and 3rd Street and stopped the vehicle.  Deputies identified an adult male driving the vehicle and a 17-year-old passenger sitting in the front seat. A 15-year-old sat in the rear seat.

A deputy spoke to the suspects and spotted a rifle on the back seat floorboard. The deputy ordered the trio out of the truck. During a search, he located a 9 mm handgun in the 15-year-old male juvenile’s waistband.

The juvenile was subsequently arrested without incident.

Upon inspection of the handgun, deputies located a prohibited extended magazine inserted into the gun. This magazine contained seven rounds of live 9mm ammunition. The handgun did not have a serial number making it untraceable.

Deputies booked the 15-year-old into the Kings County Juvenile Center on charges of minor illegally possessing a concealed firearm, minor illegally possessing live ammunition, possessing an undetectable firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public, and possessing a large capacity magazine.

Based on the results of the investigation, the adult and other juveniles were released at the scene.
