Kings County deputies arrest suspect on suspicion of attempted murder charges

Deputies were dispatched to the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino on Saturday, March 11 at about 11 p.m. to investigate a subject pointing a handgun at the driver of a pickup truck. As deputies were responding, the Kings County Sheriff’s Office dispatch stated the subject, who was identified as 37-year-old Timothy Jeff, was approaching other vehicles with the handgun.

A deputy arrived on the scene and spotted the suspect, Jeff. He approached the suspect and ordered him to stop and show his hands.  He refused to comply and ran toward the parking lot exit on Jersey Avenue where he turned and ran east on Jersey Avenue. The deputy chased after Timothy and ordered him to stop. As he was running, deputies report that Jeff pointed a handgun at the deputy and fired one round. The deputy, who was 20-25 yards behind Timothy, heard the shot and saw the muzzle flash as the gun was fired.

A second deputy arrived in a patrol car and drove between the suspect and the deputy. At this time, the suspect, Jeff, fired a second round toward the deputies as he continued to flee on foot. Jeff reached the intersection of Jersey Avenue and 17th Avenue. A car traveling north on 17th Avenue stopped at the stop sign, and the suspect took cover behind it. He was still armed with a handgun and appeared to try and gain access to the car. To make matters worse, there were several other occupied cars at the intersection.

A third Kings County deputy arrived on the scene, and they approached the suspect on foot, ordering him to drop the gun and give up. The suspect refused and an officer-involved shooting took place.

The suspect, Jeff, was shot and fell to the ground where deputies took him into custody.

They immediately provided the suspect with medical aid and radioed for an ambulance. The suspect, Jeff, was transported to an area hospital and was listed in critical but stable condition.

Deputies located a revolver which was turned over to detectives who took over the investigation. After inspection, it was determined the cylinder of the weapon had two spent shell casings and four that had not been fired.

Deputies made a records check and learned the suspect was on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) and had a long criminal record that dated back to 1998. His convictions include multiple instances of evading a peace officer and having been a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He was also charged with an assault with a deadly weapon, multiple drunk driving convictions; under the influence of a controlled substance, drunk driving causing bodily injury, multiple possession of a controlled substance in county jail or prison convictions, and violations of PRCS.

The Kings County Sheriff’s Department stated that once the suspect, Jeff,  is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Kings County Jail on attempted murder along with a host of other charges.
