Lemoore High's Tiger Band Classic a huge hit with music and marching band lovers
The Tiger Classic is quickly becoming one of the premier band events in the Valley.
Lemoore, as the host school, did not compete, but did perform in an exhibition to an audience of over 1,500 spectators. In all there were 13 bands competing in the Saturday night competition.
A high-caliber judging crew from all over California included Lemoore’s own Dave Glyde, the show coordinator for the world champion Concord Blue Devils. Glyde also wrote music for the past two Olympic Games. He is world renowned for his percussion compositions and drum arrangement and is known locally as a former band director at Liberty Middle School.
“It’s great seeing hundreds of students putting their hearts and souls into something they believe in,” said Lemoore High School band director Shawn McElhaney, one of the classic’s organizers. “They all depend on each other and strive for one common goal. Every student out there is part of something bigger than themselves. Their efforts and commitment will set them up for a solid future in tomorrow’s society.”
Other winners Saturday night included Class A champion, Washington Union and Class AA champ Golden West High School. Winning the Class AAA title was a 100 plus member band from Tulare Western High School.
