Lady Tigers overcome mistakes to beat Dinuba 47-30 as they prepare for Redwood
Lemoore certainly need to improve on certain aspects of the game as they return to West Yosemite League play this week. Despite the turnovers and an inability to consistently shoot free throws, the Tigers will have to work on those details prior to their Wednesday (Jan. 15) game against Redwood in the Event Center. Lemoore already has its first league win under its jersey with an easy victory over Hanford West last week
"We got off to a slow start," said Tiger Coach Jennifer Anderson. "But the girls continued to work hard and stayed confident in what we can accomplish as a team. We have a few things to tweak heading into next week's league match-ups, but we remain confident and will continue to improve," she said.
West Yosemite League Standings
The Tigers had their troubles at the foul line, both making free throw sand committing fouls. Lemoore committed 27 fouls on the night and in the game’s final minutes, two players, Jazmine Taylor and Serina Daise, fouled out. Daise committed four fouls in the final period alone. The Tigers also struggled at the free throw line, connecting on just eight of 16.
Fortunately for Lemoore the Emperors were not much better at the foul line despite being given so many chances, connecting on just 14 of 25 free throws.
It wasn’t much of an offensive contest as typified by the first period as the Tigers saw their shots repeatedly bounce off the rim or come up short. When all was said and done the two teams were tied at 6-6 after the first period. Keisha Loftin scored the first two of her 14 points in the first period. Taylor Vasquez scored once and Daise had two free throws for Lemoore’s only points.
Kayla Beck came into the game and tossed in the first of her two three-point shots in the second period as the Tigers outscored Dinuba 11-6 to take a 17-12 lead into the half. Beck had another three-pointer in the third and finished with 10 points.
Nicolle Vega finished with seven points including a three-pointer of her own in the third period.
Loftin was spectacular in the final period as Lemoore pulled away from the Emperors. With a little over two minutes left Loftin blocked a shot, grabbed the ball, raced the length of the court and scored on a layup for a 43-29 advantage.
