Lemoore's vaunted wrestling program may not be as strong as in previous years, but it is still in the running for a 20th straight West Yosemite League championship, particularly after downing two tough opponents in Wednesday's tri-meet in the Lemoore High School Event Center.
The Tigers easily beat Mt. El Diamante in the opener 52-11 and returned to edge Mt. Whitney in surprisingly close contest that wasn't decided until the final match when Sam Lopez, only a sophomore, beat the Pioneers' Reyes Diaz 5-2 to preserve the win for Lemoore.
Diaz also won his El Diamante match easily coming away with a pair of wins on the night.
Lemoore will complete its WYL tri-meet season with a trip to Hanford to tackle the Bullpups and Hanford West Huskies.
