Tiger baseball wins two of three as season opens

Lemoore’s varsity baseball team is off to a solid start, taking the first two of three games in the first week of high school play. The Tigers will play Kingsburg Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in the annual Central Valley Diamond Classic.

The Tigers opened their 2014 campaign with an 8-2 loss to Madera before rebounding with a 12-9 victory over San Joaquin Memorial Feb. 18 at Panthers diamond. The Tigers finally came home and knocked off Minarets High School 9-7.

In the opener at Madera, Lemoore could muster only four hits on the day. Against Memorial Matt Cole was three for four with four RBI on the day to lead the Tigers to their first win. Jacob Duncil also collect three hits on the day and had an RBI. Grant Farris went three innings for the Tigers while Keola Young went two and a third innings.

Finally, Lemoore scored seven runs in the sixth inning and outlasted visiting Minarets 9-7 to get their second win of the year. B. Hitchman, Grant Farris and Jacob Duncil each had two RBI for the Tigers. Beau Legarretta went four innings on the mound for Lemoore.
