Friends, family and co-workers gathered on a bright and pleasant winter day to pay homage to Don Warkentin, who passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 1 following a visit to a friend. Hundreds of mourners “celebrated” Warkentin’s life with a mixture of laughter and tears in a nearly hour and a half ceremony at the West Hills College Lemoore Golden Eagle Arena, a facility the likeable former college president helped to build. West Hills College Coalinga Rodeo Boosters are now selling tickets for their annual dinner fundraiser. The dinner is Feb. 27 at Harris Ranch Inn & Restaurant. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40, with all proceeds benefitting the WHCC rodeo team and scholarships for rodeo team members. Services have been scheduled for Don Warkentin, the recently retired president of West Hills College Lemoore, who passed away suddenly on Monday. Warkentin was 69 years old and had been president of the college since 2004. He retired December 31. Family members announced that a viewing will be held on Friday, Feb. 5, from 5 pm. to 7 p.m. at South Valley Community Church in Lemoore. On Saturday, a public graveside service with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. at the Lemoore Cemetery. Finally, a Celebration of Life will be held following the graveside service, at the Golden Eagle Arena on the West Hills Lemoore campus. The Celebration is expected to begin around 12 noon.
