Lemoore police nab suspect in assault in Heritage Park restroom Sunday morning

Lemoore Police Officers were called to Heritage Park on Sunday morning about 8 a.m. for a man armed with a gun. Upon arrival Lemoore Police Officer contacted a 24-year-old female Lemoore resident. The woman told Officers she was jogging in Heritage Park when she stopped to use the public restroom.

While inside Heritage Park's female's restroom the woman was confronted by the suspect, convicted felon 32-year-old Mark Thompson, a Lemoore transient. Thompson, who was holding a semi-automatic pistol, told the woman to be quiet. The woman immediately yelled for help and began struggling with Thompson.

As the struggle continued Thompson gave up and the woman was able to escape from the restroom and contact the Police. The woman was able to provide Lemoore officers with a detailed description of Thompson. The woman was treated and release at the scene by EMS for hyperventilation.

Approximately five minutes later Lemoore Police Officers located Thompson and took him into custody approximately one block east of Heritage Park. Thompson denied involvement in the assault. Thompson was transported to the Kings County Jail on the following charges: Assault with a deadly weapon, attempted rape, false imprisonment, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to commit a sexual crime. Thompson's bail is set at $160,000.

Thompson had been released the day before from the Kings County Jail after being arrested in October, 2013 for the following crimes: Indecent exposure, peeking into an inhabited dwelling, using a cell phone to invade privacy of someone inside an inhabited dwelling.
