Lemoore diamond teams fail to win trip to Central Section playoffs after losing to Hanford
In Lemoore, on Thursday, the Tigers softball team, which to the best of anybody’s recollection, has never missed a playoff appearance, also saw their hopes dashed when the Bullpup ladies edged the Tigers 2-0.
Lemoore’s ladies finished with a disappointing 3-9 WYL record and were 6-21 overall. Redwood High went on to win the WYL with an 11-1 record. Lemoore’s boys’ team finished 13-17 overall and held a 4-8 record in league play.
The Tigers had their chances in boys’ game. In the first inning Lemoore scored when Nate Corona crossed the plate on a single off the bat of Jacob Dunhill. The Tigers scored two more runs in the fifth but the Bullpups used some strong pitching to keep Lemoore off the base paths for much of the game.
The ladies mustered just four hits in their 2-0 loss to the Bullpups. Tiger pitcher Ines Ramirez again went the distance for Lemoore and gave up just two fifth innings runs, which accounted for the final score. Megan Ambriz had two hits for the Tigers. Mareya Ortiz and Britney Antuna each had a hit.
Previous Action
Lemoore's struggling baseball team, just days after scoring a big victory against league-leading Redwood, had all the momentum in the world as they prepared to challenge for the West Yosemite League lead, but they left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning with no outs and watched as Mt. Whitney scored five runs in the top of the 10th to beat Lemoore 9-4 and just about spoil the Tigers hopes for a league championship.
The Tigers then went on to drop their Thursday game to Mt. Whitney 5-4. Lemoore trailed the entire game, trailing 5-1 in the fifth before mounting a comeback with two in their half of the frame and another in the seventh, but it wasn't quite enough as Lemoore fell to 4-6 in the WYL and 13-15 overall.
Grant Farris went three for five against the Pioneers while Nate Corona and Jacob Duncil each collected a pair of hits, as did Justin Sanders.
Against El Diamante the Tigers mustered just eight hits on the day, two of them off the bat of Duncil. Sanders, Jayden Hunt, Matt Cole, Trevor Salas, Russ Tuman, Farris and Corona each had a hit.
