A Kings County Sheriff’s Deputy and his K-9 partner Jax put a big crimp on a drug smuggler’s hopes of cashing in on about $350,000 worth of marijuana they found in the trunk of an Interstate 5 motorist.

On Thursday, May 15 at approximately 10 a.m. the deputy and Jax were on patrol on Interstate 5 near Utica Avenue, and while patrolling the area, the deputy observed a passing motorist commit several traffic infractions so he conducted a traffic stop.

During the stop the officer spoke to the occupants inside the car and he became suspicious they might be involved in illegal drug smuggling. As a result, the officer conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered a trunk full of marijuana packaged for sell.

The total weight of the marijuana was about 100 pounds, which has a street value of approximately $350,000. Arrested during the traffic stop was 20-year-old suspect, Luis Peralta of Southern California. Peralta was booked in to the Kings County Jail and charged with several drug related felonies.
