Lemoore's Alvin Oliveira passes away at age 69; was full of life

Alvin Joseph Oliveira, proud husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at St. Agnes Medical Center on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at 69 years old. Alvin was born on July 11, 1944, to AP and Virginia Oliveira in Hanford and was the youngest of nine children.

He graduated from Lemoore High School in 1962 and served in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. After returning home he farmed locally, worked at C&S Distributing, and started his own yard maintenance service.

For the past 39 years Alvin has courageously battled with various health-relate issues. He received a heart transplant at Stanford Medical center and is the second longest surviving recipient of a heart transplant from Stanford. His strength and resilience were an inspiration to all that knew him.

Alvin was full of spunk and had an outgoing personality. Alvin loved to spend time with his many wonderful relatives and great friends. Alvin and his wife Kathy enjoyed getting together with friends and family and would often end up playing the card game “Phase 10.”

Alvin always had sports on TV and was an avid 49er and Notre Dame football fan. Alvin will always be remembered for his devotion to his grandchildren and his absolute love of all animals especially his large family of pets.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Anthony and John Oliveira; a sister, Mary Trigueiro; and son, Stephen Martin.

Alvin is survived by Kathy his wife of 40 years, who was always by his side; children, Jamie (Sarah) Oliveira, and Thomas and Kristin Martin; grandchildren, Logan, Emmie, and Livie; brother, William (Margaret) Oliveira; and four sisters, Virginia Soares, Velma Coelho, Lena Bettencourt and Nancy Rocha. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews, and a plethora of cousins.

A celebration of Alvin’s life was held Friday, May 30 with internment in the Lemoore Cemetery.
