It’s been a solid couple of weeks for a team that fields only 15 players in 8-man football. Kings Christian High School has scored 99 points in two games, both wins as they open the 2014 football campaign. On Friday, the Crusaders took a 20-8 lead into the third quarter and held on to beat Trinity Classical Academy 36-28.

Kings Christian’s defense allowed Trinity 20 fourth-quarter points but scored 16 of their own to account for the final difference.

The Crusaders are now 2-0 on the young season, despite a roster of only 15. They hit the road this Friday with a game at Coast Union.

Kings Christian took the early 2-0 lead thanks to a safety in the first quarter. The Crusaders then scored minutes later on a touchdown pass to take a 9-0 lead. With about five minutes left in the half, Trinity scored to cut the gap to 9-8.

The Crusaders got a field goal with just seconds left in the half to take a 12-8 lead into the locker room.

Kings Christian scored late in the third and converted on the 2-point conversion to lead 20-8.

The Crusaders, a week earlier, humbled Cuyama Valley 71-28 in its opener.

Derrick Hill had two touchdowns for the Crusaders, both pass completions of 15 and 60 yards. He also had a 69-yard kickoff return. Quarterback Joshua Robinson was solid at quarterback, having been the signal caller for the past three years.

On defense, Nico Hudson had six tackles and five assists. He also had an interception for 46 yards.
