Tigers give WYL leader Redwood all it can handle in water polo loss
But the Tigers gave them just about all they could handle, finally succumbed in the late going 16-12, falling to 11-10 overall on the year and 3-5 in league play.
The Tigers were playing them goal for goal in the first half and actually exited the first half tied with the Rangers at 8-8.
But the Rangers came out firing early in the second half and erupted for an 11-9 lead with just 2:30 left in the third period. Redwood outscored Lemoore 5-3 in the final minutes to continue its unbeaten streak this season.
“We’ve been talking a lot about team effort, and sharing the ball,” said Tiger Coach Josh Acosta, “Everybody attacking, playing good defense and covering up. A lot of teams have a few real good offensive weapons and then they try to play to their strengths. Our philosophy has been that if we take six guys and play defense on two guys we should be successful.”
The Tigers resume WYL play with a contest at Mt. Whitney on Wednesday.
